Term Definition
Vacuum A volume of space that is substansively empty of matter, so gaseous pressure is much less than standard atmospheric pressure.
Viscosity The property of a liquid that enables it to resist flow. Varies with temperature. Reported in centistokes, centipoise, or Saybolt Universal Seconds (SUS) (higher viscosity indicates higher resistance to flow).
VLSI Very Large-Scale Integration. The process of putting hundreds of thousands of transistors onto a single quarter-inch IC.
Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOC) Term used to describe the organic solvents that comprise the portion of a metal working fluid which evaporates into the air as the fluid dries. VOCs in coating product are restricted because they are photochemically reactive into the atmosphere and react with nitrogen oxides in the air to form ozone.
