Term	Definition
GaAs	Gallium Arsenide. A lll-V compound semiconductor material used for making optoelectronic devices and high frequency ICs. GaAs has a higher electron mobility than silicon which gives it the capability of producing higher speed devices.
Gate Array	A semi-custom chip. The IC is preprocessed to the first interconnect level. The remainder of the interconnect is customized to customer specifications.
Glob Top	The process of encapsulating a bare chip with plastic or epoxy.
Goniometer	Derived from Greek words gonia = angle and metron = measure. A goniometer is an instrument used to measure the contact angle of a drop of water. It is used to determine the hydrophobicity of a surface.
